Artist's Comments

Why another one? Because I $@&#! felt like it. That's why.

Edit: These views are solely my opinion. I do not expect anyone to agree with them.

I won't say I'm pissed, because that's not the right word. I will say I am... disappointed. This is a problem that I have seen occurring in the real world, but for the purposes of this stamp, I will keep it to DA since that is where it will be used.

*takes a deep breath*

It's bad enough that there are people on DA who think it is perfectly normal and typical practice to create art that looks exactly like everything else being made, but when other artists SUPPORT these atrocities, that's where I lose it. As artists and as active DA members, they are not blind to what happens on this site, so naturally they should know what has become bandwagon fodder.

Why? Why must they always be so robotic in what they choose to ignore and what they choose to admire? Are they simply apathetic to the budding imaginations that are appearing on this site, or are they merely comfortable in their safety zone and refuse to leave?

It is OK to look beyond the scope of what you know to find what lies beneath the bullshit. I don't buy it when I see a piece that looks like every other f*cking piece submitted to say, the Photomanipulation > Dark category, and people are singing its praises. Shut the hell up. Of course it's beautiful to you, because it's a formula that works.

The definition of a true artist, in my opinion, is someone who can find beauty where others normally never seek it.

So please, cut the bullshit.

No, that graveyard piece with the girl in the black dress is not amazing. It's just comfortable.
No, that image of the girl in the field is not spectacular. It's boring and overdone.
No, those photos of waterdrops on petals are not superb. They're old, already.

And no, just because you have 500,000+ pageviews doesn't mean you have any talent or deserve the attention you've gotten.

*sigh*

I'm done.

Quote for stamp written by me.

EDIT ON JUNE 10TH, 2008: THIS STAMP IS FOR USE ON DA ONLY. WTF? WHY DON'T PEOPLE STOP STEALING SHIT AND PRETENDING I'M NOT GOING TO FIND OUT!??

[link]

HOW IRONIC. HE STEALS A STAMP ABOUT ORIGINALITY, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY BY SOMEONE ELSE. FUCKING GENIUS.

You hold a very valid point, and I must say, I always enjoy reading things on topics the author is rather passionate about. Logging into Deviant Art and going through the popular files and such is a malaise of sorts, for I already know what to expect. But you know, people keep upping the same thing because it is what they are comfortable with, or are used to. Change or innovation is such a hard concept to grasp for some because it is not within their limitations which they have already pre-determined.

Though, in some cases, seing the same thing over and over and over again can kind of be fun. I only say this because then you get another artists perspective on the same thing, and maybe even a whole new look! But when it gets past that point and just goes to the line of pure repetition, where every aspect is duplicated only with a possible different medium, that is where it should end.

All in all, I see where you are coming from with this, and I applaud you for saying something. It is not something that has never been said before, but maybe it'll change someone elses thinking on such matters. I am not one to talk, for I am still trying to find my own style, but it's important for people dealing with that issue to have atleast one foot in a decent direction.

Sorry for my ramblings. =P

Hmm... I agree with your point here but this should not be confused with those "inspiration" moments. As in you saw something and it gets your gray matter to work on something. It might have a few details of something you've seen before but most of the piece is well... original.

Why did I said this? because many people will either say it or just rant about it.

And... I wanted to say something else but I don't know how to say it. I have to synchronize the words in my brain and I am lazy now -.-'

Maybe your next stamp should be able the loser teenagers who take work like yours and post it all over myspace like they own it.

You know, I should agree, but I doubt whether it will change something... It's like a world of toys for children...

There is a huge difference between the man creating and the Artist through big A. Today each teenage girl can join to the dA and start creating everything she wants and she can say: "I'm an artist". And it's a general point of this case. WHAT exactly she wants to create. If she doesn't have any talent for drawing, painting or something like that, probably she will start doing manips and as we all know, this category of art is the most abused category ever. Why? It's a good question. Maybe because each person has the access for the same stock photos, maybe because connecting a few photographs isn't so difficult? Yes, it isn't. Of course it depends from number of details etc. but generally it's simply and above all certainly simpler than painting for example.

My explanation is only one and very rude I'm afraid. dA is too much nice and forgiving for people's "art" and people are too much forgiving for others "art" too. Also they have no taste and knowledge. No taste and no knowledge. Yes, I said correctly. Of course, someone can say the taste is a personal matter of each person, but our artistic world always had and has basical rules and aesthetics. If we're talking about manips, especially about "dark" manips, today we're talking not about the Art, but about a Fashion. And fashion isn't the Art. If a fashion was an art, why we don't have the copy of Leonardo da Vinci or Alexandre Dumas? Why is nobody copying them? Because it's impossible and above all, it's a shame to copy another artist, especially if the artist is great and very well known. The greatest artist should be only an inspiration for others, not a suitcase for copying.

People have their own law to create whatever they want. So let they create! But if they copying others, let they NOT say that they are artists. Because it's a shame, but let they have the courage to say: "Yes, i'm not so good and original, I didn't deserve for my pageviews and favs, but I will try to be better". I will try! It's very important.

ART is a very difficult way of life, full of sacrifices, but also a passion and sense of life. Let's not sully a real artists with our admirations for every crap and fashion on the certain, online community, called deviantART. It's very beautiful when we can see that our friends grow and grow in artistic way there, but let's not forget that we are only a little drop in the sea of truly Art which is so hard to find at dA.

I'm not great and I know I'm nobody in staying behind Great Artists of this world. I didn't deserve for my dA attention, I often cry when I see a real Art very unnapreciated. But I love Art itself and if I have to leave dA in order to learn more about Art, I will do it. Because dA isn't an indicator of the real Art.
The next stamp won't change anything here... dA is full of little children without knowledge. They must grow. But it's great that certain people still exist, still have a courage to say and do what they do.
My appreciation for your effort.

The internet and readily available technology are two of the worst things that have happened to the arts.

Without proper education and perspective you'll never be able to objectively form your own style. I think that's going to be the key to tell between a true artist and a wish-i-was artist.
