*gets on soapbox*

A simple stamp for a simple concept.

I know I have addressed this before, and I apologize to those who are sick of hearing me bitch about it... but apparently there isn't enough bitching being done.

Why do people blindly follow the mundane like sheep to the slaughter? Is this generation really that incapable of having individuality that they simply follow the same rules and trends as everyone else? I, for one, would rather be part of the minority.

I am certainly not 100% guilt-free, since a few of my works here and there are inspired by "the typical", but I do not consume myself in what I believe will get me the most favorites, or the most praise and attention on a website.

A quick side note... Regarding the piece I submitted titled "Kill Mediocrity" awhile ago, I noticed a number of people who were agreeing with my statement and applauding me for stating it, yet they are guilty of the very thing they were hailing against. This is not to say that they were hypocrites, but perhaps they should have paid more attention to the message and taken a deeper look at themselves.

Contrary to popular belief, imitation is NOT the highest form of flattery. Imitation is suicide.

Thank you, and if you decide to use this stamp, let me know.

I am so using this =p
I know what you mean. I've had people who imitate comment positively and agreeing with my parody piece. I'd rather see them bitch at me for being mean than hearing fake promises like "I'll change my style."

Wow, this is great! Thanks for making it, I couldn't think of any better way to word it

And I agree with you, I'd rather be in with the minority. When everyone is the same, nobody is special. I think it's best that everyone strives for their own style, instead of someone else's. I never let the majority and what's "popular" define who I am. I do, however, allow people I admire to inspire me, just not to the degree of making their style my own

But, maybe the problem exists in our culture. If you look at people outside of just the art community, there's that similar problem. People strive for what the mass-media defines as the ideal image and role. I'm sure that pressure of needing to fit in and gain popularity remains a pressure here as well, (among other things like lack of creativity)

Sorry for the long-winded rambling there, I just had to get that off my chest :phew:

Very good idea.
I always try making somethink new and fresh, so I used this stamp.
I think, it's boring when people used the same idea and the same stock again and again...
You say "I am certainly not 100% guilt-free, since a few of my works here and there are inspired by "the typical", but I do not consume myself in what I believe will get me the most favorites, or the most praise and attention on a website."
I'm totaly agree with you.

I like the idea, is really true, inside this... virtual life, and outside but Love i have to be frontal and say to you, you said " I do not consume myself in what I believe will get me the most favorites, or the most praise and attention on a website." but you last journal have being about people are not giving the favs and comments an views to you photography's a part of you really see the favs and comets as an award for good quality art, in part that is true, but in the other part, the incense, the originality (like you say) makes the art!
