I know what you mean. I've had people who imitate comment positively and agreeing with my parody piece. I'd rather see them bitch at me for being mean than hearing fake promises like "I'll change my style."

And I agree with you, I'd rather be in with the minority. When everyone is the same, nobody is special. I think it's best that everyone strives for their own style, instead of someone else's. I never let the majority and what's "popular" define who I am. I do, however, allow people I admire to inspire me, just not to the degree of making their style my own
But, maybe the problem exists in our culture. If you look at people outside of just the art community, there's that similar problem. People strive for what the mass-media defines as the ideal image and role. I'm sure that pressure of needing to fit in and gain popularity remains a pressure here as well, (among other things like lack of creativity)
Sorry for the long-winded rambling there, I just had to get that off my chest

I always try making somethink new and fresh, so I used this stamp.
I think, it's boring when people used the same idea and the same stock again and again...
You say "I am certainly not 100% guilt-free, since a few of my works here and there are inspired by "the typical", but I do not consume myself in what I believe will get me the most favorites, or the most praise and attention on a website."
I'm totaly agree with you.
