EDIT: OMG ARE YOU KIDDING ME? HOW AWESOME! A DD ON MY BOX! Thank you so much to the lovely people who suggested it, and to Kitten-of-Woe for featuring it. You have rocked my world!
-------------------------------------------------------------- This was my final assignment for Bookmaking class. The idea was to create a series of nine: it could be anything we wanted, so long as there were AT LEAST nine. So I decided to create my own twist on Pandora's Box. There are eight boxes that signify the evils that I consider to be the worst, and the ninth box is hope. Hope is the only box that cannot be removed from the chest. Each box has two windows: above and below. In the top window is an artwork, and on the bottom is a poem; both of which directly correlate with the particular evil. The boxes sit in a "table" I made with nine holes. The table is held up by four panels of 1/4" of board on the outer edges, and four small pedestals that stabilize the center. This took me about 2 weeks to make. The materials used are: - Davey board - Japanese paper - 2" by 2" digital print-outs - 2" by 2" paper squares for written poems - Fabric - Ribbon & trim - Transparency sheets for the windows - The decoration from an already broken Hot Topic wrist cuff Below are the poems and artworks used for each box (evils are in bold): Hatred Poem The wrath within burns like embers, and heats the core 'til all I remember is the hatred I buried deep within. I cry for vengeance for this unholy sin. Artwork [link] Disease Poem Like locusts wild upon the field, this ravenous disease has killed the souls of old and young alike. The end is near, the end of life. Artwork: [link] Dishonesty Poem The truth can blind and lies will hide the cause of pain that burns inside. Reality, a mask, that ne'er denies monsters need no masks to hide. Artwork [link] Violence This raw aggression consumes my soul. I tear, I rip, I break down the walls. The spit and grime of this destruction. The violence within brings my damnation. Artwork [link] Greed Poem Everything I want. Anything I need. I feed off this poison to satisfy my greed. Luck is a fantasy, chance does not exist. I deserve the riches I cannot resist. Artwork [link] Sorrow Poem Through these tears my sorrow shows. My weary mind holds no control over the visions of yesterday. For some relief, I beg and pray. Artwork [link] War Man against man since the dawn of time. Endless murder on the battle lines. Weapons of God wielded by demons. Soldiers, despair; soon comes armageddon. Artwork [link] Death Poem Ephemeral ties in an endless path. Death, a promise, in the aftermath. Years of beginnings always meet an end. Time is my enemy, but life, my friend. Artwork [link] Daily DeviationGiven 2009-06-05M I R A N D A S . B O X by =bitchinblack. "On the first glimpse, this small box doesn't look really special. It's just a black box. But when you read the descripton, the box converts to something original and well-reconsidered. It represents 8 evils (like hatred, violence etc.) and the hope. Everything is done with much love and appears nearly like a little game. =bitchinblack must have put a lot of work and effort in this wonderful twist of Pandora's Box to make something new with this topic."
